Ferrari 308 Crash – Targa Tasmania 2008
A $130,000 sportscar competing in Targa Tasmania has crashed out of the race — wiping out a farmer’s cow shed.
The 2005 Lotus Exige 240, driven by Deon Attard, 28, smashed into the shed on the Sideling stage on Day 2 of the five-day rally.
Attard and his navigator Erin Kelly, 24, both of Brisbane, escaped from the crash unharmed.
The Lotus came around the corner and hit a patch of oil which made it spin out of control at 120km/h. It left the road and crashed through a farmer’s fence about halfway between Launceston and Scottsdale.
The car flipped upsidedown and slid about 100m on its roof before crashing in to the farmer’s cow shed.
The farmer had only moved the cows from his shed this morning so they wouldn’t become unsettled by the Targa cars going past.
Earlier in the stage the leader of the rookie rally category, Queensland driver David Scott crashed his 2005 Subaru WRX, also on the Sideling stage.
A third car, a 1984 Porche 944, driven by Leigh Achterberg and Gerard McConkey, of Queensland, also crashed about 400m into the Sideling stage.
