Discussion in the Australian Mercedes Benz forums.
Due to be revealed at next week’s Frankfurt Motor Show, the 300SL-inspired “Gullwing” is packing a front/mid-mounted version of the venerable 6.3-liter V8 fitted to the majority of AMG’s offerings, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox channeling 563 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. Weight is pegged at around 3,500 pounds, allowing the SLS to run from a rest to 60 in 3.7 seconds. Top speed is 197 mph and optional carbon ceramic discs should bring the party to a halt with supreme authority.

* Limited edition with just 63 units to be made
* Exclusive model built specifically for Australia
* Orders open today; Arriving December this year
Melbourne – German sports car maker Mercedes-AMG has enhanced its model arsenal with a more focussed version of its compact sledgehammer. Its name: the C 63 AMG – Edition 63.
Having set the benchmark with its Australian debut in March last year at the iconic Bathurst motor racing circuit, the C 63 AMG has gone on to become both a runaway success for Mercedes-Benz and a beacon for the brand in this hotly contested segment. Its cult-like following has been well documented and its ability to attract buyers seeking a genuine driving experience has seen the model break local sales records.
But, as with many good addictions, more was needed.
Enter the Edition 63.

Mercedes has taken the wraps off the new range-topping E-class: the E63 AMG.
Despite talk from within AMG about ending the horsepower war between German car makers, this new model has more power than the car it replaces — although at 11bhp, it’s a modest gain.
But thanks to a number of efficiency-enhancing measures, the 518bhp Mercedes E63 AMG drinks 12 per cent less fuel than its predecessor. It now returns 22.4mpg.
The 6208cc V8 produces the same power and 465lb ft of torque as the SL63’s unit. Performance is practically the same as the old E63, but still impressive, with a 0-62mph time of 4.5sec and a top speed limited to 155mph.

A month after Mercedes-Benz declared it will spend $23 billion on producing a range of fuel-efficient and low-emission vehicles (including hybrids) the maker has unveiled its fastest and most powerful production road car yet.

After months of spy shots and speculation, the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series is finally out in the open. And with a $320,000 price tag, a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 and only 200 units on their way to the U.S., it’s a serious stopgap between the deceased SLR and Mercedes’ 2011 SLC gullwing supercar.

Fuel prices and economic uncertainty have not stopped Mercedes-Benz from rolling out a new set of sports stars at the top of its line-up. It has just tweaked the droptop SLK and SL, as well as the four-door CLS coupe, as it applies showroom pressure on BMW, Audi and Lexus rivals.
The changes are mainly minor, although the latest SL looks far more aggressive in the nose (and is also $4000 to $8000 more expensive) but Benz is looking closely at the potential for turbodiesel power in the trio.
