A classic piece of the past makes history again.
Heritage Plates were originally issued between 1932 and 1939 by the then Motor Registration Branch. These plates ranged from plate number 1 up to 285,000. From 1939, Heritage Plates were discontinued and replaced with machine stamped plates with an alpha-numeric series.
Heritage Plates are handmade with heavy gauge metal, with white embossed numbers and coated with black and white vitreous enamel. Each character is manually hand etched, the plate is oven baked to fuse the Vitreous (Glass Beads) at 900 degrees C, which melts the glass that then flows to make a high gloss and durable surface.
Given the handmade nature of Heritage Plates, each plate is one of a kind and will differ slightly from one another and from pictures. Individuality and small inconsistencies are an integral part of their character.
