WERE F. Scott Fitzgerald alive today, he might be surprised to learn that the very rich are not always so different from you and me, at least in how they pay for their cars.
As it turns out, some people wealthy enough to pay cash for the most expensive vehicles on the planet sometimes choose to lease rather than buy them outright. It’s not that these customers are short of cash: for the cars they are acquiring, the down payment is more than the mortgage on many homes.
Timothy S. Durham, a financier with a 45-space garage at his home near Indianapolis, said he put down about $400,000 on his latest acquisition, a black-on-silver Bugatti Veyron that sells for more than $1.5 million. His monthly payments on the five-year lease, he said, would approach $20,000 — or, about enough to buy a new Honda Accord every 30 days.
Why would a multimillionaire submit to the paperwork and other obligations of leasing when he could simply write a check for the full amount?

A Pagani Zonda F has set a new lap record for the Nurburgring Nordschleife.
A Zonda F Clubsport covered the 12.8 miles and 73 corners of the Green Hell in 7:27:82.
That beats the previous production car lap record, held by a Porsche Carrera GT, by just two tenths of a second.

The latest Porsche 911 isn’t just quick on the road, it’s quick out of the factory, too.
Discussion in the Australian Lotus Esprit forums.
Friends restore Lotus in secret
A sports car enthusiast who suffered a mini stroke while restoring a Lotus Esprit was amazed when online friends finished the work for him in secret.
Simon Pritchard, 36, from Abergavenny, had been in the process of rebuilding the 25-year-old car when he fell ill.
When members of the Lotus Esprit online forum website heard, they donated money and time to fix it.
Those crazy Italians are now giving you the chance to lick the back of a Lamborghini and send it to your grandma.
Yep, for some reason they’re commemorating the legendary auto company by putting a gold-on-black badge on a postage stamp.
It’s as yet unknown whether putting a Lambo badge on your envelope will make it get to it’s destination faster, or whether the envelope “door” will open in a different direction.
