The engine is loosely based on the standard V12 in the DB range and was substantially modified and developed in partnership with Cosworth.  AFAIK Merc/AMG had nothing to do with it , although based on what you hear a partnership with Aston/AMG is not far away.

750hp is 100hp more than the zonda was with the same capacity.... sounds like a pretty good engine
that said, a lot of cars now produce over 100hp/litre so its not that impressive on that basis.
