CarAdvice has just completed Australia’s first track test of Aston Martin’s hard-core V12 Vantage sports car at Queensland’s Morgan Park Raceway.

Heavy rain and a water logged track, are certainly not ideal conditions for an all out track test of Aston’s smallest and lightest V12 powered rear wheel-drive sports car. But this was the prevailing weather that confronted us on our drive from Brisbane to Morgan Park early this morning.

With 386kW and 570 Newton-metres of torque on tap, traction control remained decidedly ‘on’ for the first few laps, before the rain miraculously stopped and the track dried out, which allowed some seriously fast laps in what is surely one of today’s most thrilling sports cars.

I saw one of these on Sunday - it is a very impressive car to sit in and look at.

Not sure about the performance though - 0-100km/h in 4.2 sec isn't really competitive in its class anymore.

My photo (and the other one on the site). Just got back to Perth this arvo.

Weather was shitty in the morning and late arvo but during the day was perfect track weather. We had Paul Stokell out there doing laps, very impressive behind the wheel!! A very capable car the V12 and at sub $400K seems to be pretty good value.

More photos once I've edited them.

Sexy, sexy car. I think it is what the original Vantage should have been. Enjoyed driving it too, though agree with mhh that would expect it be faster for what it is, and in its price range. That being said, all the AMs I have seen are works of art!

Gotta remember its RWD and no flappy paddles available so that won't help its 0-100 time.

So a few rushed photos to share....

We had the track to ourselves for the entire day and Paul Stokell (ex V8 supercars, Nations Cup etc) on hand to show us how to drive the thing....bloody hell! O_o Its amazing how much faster a good driver actually is, quite an experience to do some hot laps with him!

As for the car, I loved it! 510hp V12, 398mm carbon ceramic brakes which refused to fade and a host of other goodies in a suprisingly small package (looks big in photos). The car performed very well on the fairly tight track.
