Cops probe Lara Bingle's mates

POLICE are examining Lara Bingle's social scene over claims figures connected to her party lifestyle may be involved in the theft of her luxury Aston Martin.

The Sunday Telegraph can reveal that inquiries into the stolen $250,000 car have escalated significantly, with police examining whether the 22-year-old model was targetted.

Senior NSW Police confirmed they were keeping a close eye on the investigation, which appeared to be more than an everyday car-theft.

One high-ranking officer said police were suspicious of how and why the car disappeared.

"We're looking at all the circumstances that could have led to this incident," the officer said.

The officer said large amounts of police resources were being devoted to the unusual case.

Authorities were also investigating specific characters inside Ms Bingle's wider social circle, some of whom have previously been the subject of detailed intelligence and police surveillance.

Security sources have told the The Sunday Telegraph that Ms Bingle has become a mainstay in the area, known for her nights out in swanky clubs while her cricketer fiance, Michael Clarke, is on tour.

The model has also frequently been spotted in the company of well-know and controversial social identities who maintain a strong presence around the Kings Cross area.

Police fear a patron of one of the clubs Bingle is known to frequent may have been involved in the theft.

While not suspected of any links to the theft of the car Bingle's friends in the Cross include John Ibrahim and the Freeman brothers.

Bingle has been seen attending the upmarket Piano Room nightclub, which Ibrahim promotes.

The Piano Room is a known hotspot for members of the Notorious street gang.

Bingle is also good friends with Ibrahim's proteges, Adam and David Freeman, who recently launched the exclusive nightclub Lady Lux in Kings Cross.

Bingle and her brother, Josh grew up with the Freemans in the Sutherland Shire, and the model is known to have dated David when they were both teenagers.

The Sunday Telegraph does not suggest that either Ibrahim or the Freeman brothers are in any way linked to the theft of Bingle's car. Instead, they enjoy a good friendship.

Ms Bingle's car was recovered on Thursday night in a south Coogee cul-de-sac, a few kilometres from the high-security, $3.7 million Bondi apartment she shares with Clarke.

The car, a supposedly theft-proof 2008-model Vantage V8, was an early Christmas present from Clarke, who was in Melbourne when it was stolen between 11pm Tuesday and 5:30am Wednesday.

The vehicle's manufacturers last week said it was nearly impossible to drivethe car without a set of keys.

On Thursday the couple claimed a third set of keys to the car had been stolen from inside Clarke's Range Rover, which was parked nearby, and used to start the .

The Aston Martin was found in Iluka Place, Coogee, a small street of housing commission blocks. Its keys were missing.

Yesterday the car remained impounded at a police holding yard at Alexandria.

The vehicle was undergoing further tests for fingerprint and DNA analysis, officers said

14yo charged with stealing Lara Bingle's car

Police have charged a teenage boy over the theft of model Lara Bingle's Aston Martin from Bondi Beach in Sydney's eastern suburbs.

Investigators say the 2008 model car was stolen from an underground carpark at an apartment block in December.

The model lives in the apartment with her fiance - Australian test cricket star Michael Clarke.

Police say a number of other vehicles in the car park were damaged.

Ms Bingle's car was later found in Illuka Street, South Coogee.

Police yesterday arrested a 14-year-old boy in La Perouse over the theft of the car and he is expected to face a Sydney Childrens' Court later today.

Police say anyone with information about the break-in should call Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
