Really like the exterior, but the interior is pretty boring. Would've hoped they'd throw in a bit more gear on an M car.  Doesn't look as premium as the inside of a BMW should - that's proven the case with 3/4-Series cars as well, unfortunately.  Was also hoping for a greater colour range too, however all four options will look good on this car.

Should still be a big hit - it does look very impressive and aggressive, and seems very very quick. At $100k-ish it's a brilliant package.

Now BMW need to build an M1 hatch to rival the A45 and RS3...

FWIW, I drove the A45 before getting my M135i last week, the A45 is quick point to point but I found the ride very firm and just not as drivable as the M135i

The M2 looks the goods, the engine is a cracked and it's got an LSD.. just a little heavy!

What are the opinions on what this one will do to 1M prices?

Having had two 1Ms from new and sold both after 12 months I see prices dropping since then (12/13) as you'd expect, but way less than the market norm. The 1M is a limited build car, 301 cars in aus in total with a circa 12 month build for our cars, that's it.

The M2 is a run o the mill product in the M car range, with a restricted supply, at least initially (first cars hit aus in April) but are not limited in build terms. They are here to stay, with a likely CSL not far down the road and then a LCI update in say 12-18 months. I deliberated waiting for one but think it hasn't moved on enough from the 1M (sure a great recipe). I wanted some individual choices, color/leather/audio but not an option. I wanted a cf roof/m specific mirrors/bespoke seat options, so I spat it and spent nearly twice as much elsewhere. Lol

Back to your Q though, yes I think so, new car, warranty etc will mean demand will drop on the 1M, where there is always a dozen cars on the used market.

As always I wish the M2 was a little cheaper but consider that the 1989 BMW 325is was $87,500 brand new 26 years ago with 145kw and 265nm. Now the M2 is $89,900 and offers 272kw and 465nm...

It's cheaper than the old 1M and potentially less money than an RS3, bang for your buck it's pretty good, besides, rwd manual in a coupe with its performance what more can you ask for? (Other than what I said above lol)

1M's and their owners are a different kind. I know about 5 people with 1M's and while they do like the M2, they won't sell their 1M for it.

Something about these cars. They are hard to sell privately however when a dealer has one they sell straight away.

For sure they will keep on depreciating. The masses like warranties and the latest and greatest thing.
