Australian buyers who wanted to get behind the wheel of the new X5 M have been granted their wish.

The BMW X5 M is now confirmed for a sales start in Australia.

The newest member of the M family will kick-off BMW’s product offensive next year, with the first customers taking deliver of their vehicle in January.

BMW Group Australia Managing Director, Stavros Yallouridis says buyer interest in the X5 M means the vehicle is now confirmed for local introduction.

“Since we announced the X6 M was coming to Australia, dealers have taken numerous orders for the car. The first owners will take delivery of their prized possession just before Christmas.

“Not wishing to be left out of the action, BMW has also received several requests from buyers interested in the X5 M.

“Now that our business case for the X5 M is complete, we are in a position to meet the desires of these customers also.

“The new hero M models will start from around $180,000,” he said.

Both the X5 M and X6 M set new standards in their class in terms of dynamic performance as a result of supreme acceleration, lateral dynamics, steering behaviour, short stopping distances and efficiency – all hallmarks of BMW M vehicles.

The BMW X5 M is powered by a new 4.4-litre V8 high-performance engine.

Delivering peak power of 408 kW, the new M TwinPower Turbo engine is the world’s first power unit with a common exhaust emission manifold joining both rows of cylinders as well as Twin Scroll Twin Turbo technology.

The turbocharger and the catalytic converters are positioned in the V-section between the two rows of cylinders ensuring spontaneous and direct response so typical of BMW M as well as a linear surge of power for a consistent flow of torque at all times. Peak torque is rated at 680 Newton-metres.

The BMW X5 M accelerates from 0-100 km/h in a scintillating 4.7 seconds. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h or 275 km/h with the optional M Driver’s Package.

Despite superlative driving dynamics, the BMW X5 M offers the highest level of efficiency in its segment thanks to the High Precision Injection engine combined with proven and newly developed BMW EfficientDynamics technologies. These include Brake Energy Regeneration as well as on-demand control of the electrical fuel pump, detachable a/c compressor and volume flow-controlled supply of hydraulic fluid to the anti-roll system.

The BMW X5 M complies with the EU5 and LEV II emission standards and average fuel consumption is 13.9 litres per 100 kilometres.

Australian specification and pricing for the new BMW X5 M will be announced closer to launch.

found some pics, doesn't do enough for me to purchase one. rims come as 20 inch standard. mine has the 21's, looks great, and at $180k+, i can't see the point.

I gotta be honest TTZ............I'm with Scud on this one........I dont get it either. Loved my X5 and love my Rangie but why waste this money and this horsepower on a mobile block of flats????????

must say..just picked up my new X5 twin turbo diesel 7 seat exec sport 20" rims etc. and my new 325 Coupe...X5 has to be the best car i have ever bought.  Highly recommend it to any one wanting a family car with enough power, great ride and handling (for a 4wd)! Much better than my ML...Mercedes has a lot of catching up to do.
