sigh...

slush autos (merc, tiptronic porsches, datsun 370z etc etc etc) have a torque convertor and hydraulic soft gear engagement, it's all slushy and gradually dis/connected.
A human input doing what the box can do for itself.

manual boxes with paddles (M3, 360 etc) have a conventional clutch, with almost no slippage, and positive gear enagagement... a robot changing gear for you. ... not as well as you can do it yourself.

then you also have DSG double clutch systems (Golf, Porsche PDK, 458 etc etc)... the best of both worlds...

So the 4200 was a manual box with paddles and the C63 I drove was just an auto with paddles, I see the difference now.

If the 4200 was a manual with paddles, so would the QP be, same motor, same setup presumably.

No, the QP auto is auto with manual capability. The QP is paddle manual with auto function capability.

clear as mud.

I see, thought they were the same mechanically, so the QP wouldn't be as much fun as the Coupe ....shame.

No no no no no.

Ok, step one. Go to the Datsun dealer and drive a 370Z AUTO, put it in manual mode and drive it using the paddles... Or the shift stick... Its brilliant, loads of fun and throttleblips the whole deal....

THEN go drive a QP auto, again in manual mode.

THEN buy whichever you liked most.

My tip will be the Datsun  :tilt:

Hey guys haven't really been a BMW man but popped into the dealership to check out a M3 that had there. It was the "Pure Edition" white with the black bits like rims and carbon roof.

Is there anything to look out for or try get as an option for these cars? I never driven one either so I am very unaware.

If it's a Pure Edition, should be a 2010+ model?

No real problems but should have a current warranty, which is always handy, just in case.

Drive it & see what you think.

IMO, no options are needed :)
