Do you think N57D30A is a piece of wreckage or is it really a reliable piece of machinery? And why? What's your experience?

I'm referring to those that are MY from 2011 to 2013 with 8 transmissions.

If it's not the engine who's failing, what is?

In my brother's direct experience ... X-drive broke just out of warranty and cost $11k in parts plus labour to fix.  Wouldn't go there ... I see the same issues with DSG from VW.

I think the manufacturers worked out cars were lasting too long and have started to build short lifespans into the major components.
