err, not really.

When I did my test, learners were actually banned from motorway driving until you've passed, and you didn't need ANY prior instruction, either private or professional.

and there was no P plate system etc...

you could pass your test at 8.30 am on your 17th birthday, and be just as legal as anyone.

All, I've been an idiot on the road.
Then, one day, I grew up.

These kids didn't get that second chance, we've all done this, me doing 200kph on the way to Adelaide years ago etc, mostly we get away with it but I suspect these kids were very reckless not just speeding a bit.

That's my point...if you are with the wrong person,
You were lucky....some people aren't!

that's why I said I hope the passengers didn't goad the driver into being the idiot he/she was.

200 km/h should be legal and even encouraged on a road trip.

it's around town where it's dangerous, NOT on the open road.

Really???
I got my licence in Italy, and it is very very difficult.
You must learn in manual and pass in manual, no exceptions.
You must know how to change a tyre, how a car works, what a tyre does/ reacts in the snow, dry, wet, etc.
It is so detailed and makes you a great driver before you even start
Everything looks better in carbon fibre

If it was I'd catch the train, most people aren't nearly good enough to handle that speed.

disagree. Most people don't know how to stay alert droning along at ~110km/h... but everyone responds to the stimulant of medium/high speed.. 200km/h is medium/high speed.

Every parent of teenagers dreads this. :(

I just about had a stroke when my youngest son (22) told me he hit 160kph a while ago, I told him never do it again, I don't think he will it's just something people want to do once and thats it.
I was just bloody grateful that he was ok to be hoinest.
