My wife has had one for 5 years. Had diff replaced; but that's it.
Ride is crap on big wheels, X5 is much better car all around.

Thanks, the car needs to go from Pyrmont to Maquarie park and back each day so fuel economy etc are being considered. Good to hear your wife's X3 experience wasn't as bad as these other guys.

Can I ask, what year was your wife's car, at how many K's did the diff blow and at how many K's did you sell the vehicle?

Thanks!
Paul

It's a small car and storage room is even less than the 3 wagon of the same era as the wheel arches encroach on the storage area! We had the 2.0d version and it was a decent engine as is the 3.0d but iirc the 2.5i version is nowhere as good as the 3.0i engine!
They r built well though as my wife who almost wrote ours off can attest! She somehow had the car in reverse, panicked and jumped out in the garage, car started moving and entire front door was folded forwards and it across our steep  driveway, got jammed between 2 trees and rear axle was in midair with diff balancing on rocks! If not for the trees, it would have rolled down the steep hill face into my neighbors house!

Besides that, being based on the e46 design, the usual dead pixel issues r bout the only other thing that comes to mind. Don't bother with low profile tyres or the msport version IMO! And as Scott has indicated the e70 X5 is a much better all rounder!
Forgiveness is easier to achieve than permission!
