Obviously I'm not a local; but I tried places that were recommended by locals on the Gold Coast/Noosa areas and as far north as Hamilton Island, Cairns and Port Douglas. They were all shite compared to even average restaurants in Melbourne. Haven't eaten out in Brisbane itself for a while.

The only really good dining experience that I have experienced was at Nautilus in Port Douglas.

Nautilus is good, Clinton likes it. Harvey's there is great as well. bucci here is by the same chef.
Gold Coast has come a long way recently, but still has hardly any of the options of Brisbane.
