This is what jumped at me, apart from what amgsl55 said:

- the ABC email looks like you are offering to open up a hornets nest that can affect us (driving enthusiasts) negatively.
- why only the Pritchards - why not the family of the other Australian too?
- you have to get the Japanese families involved too

And also, why are you so involved in this? If you have not even met these people, why are you spending so much energy on them? I understand doing good deeds, but surely there are plenty of other things you can do that for, where it would be appreciated more, for example children and animals, who truly can't help themselves, rather than a couple that needs a stranger, that has never met them, to push them to visit their son's memorial and grave because they haven't managed to do so of their own accord in 20 years.
It just seems that you want this more than they do, which to me it seems strange considering you have never met them.

Okay, sorry I didn't know it could impact the driving enthusiasts community by opening up a hornets next. Can you tell me how this could happen as I am genuinely interested. I use to be a moderator of another car club for many years and I can honestly say that I had this experience in mind when I was putting this email together.

The Pritchard's are in touch with the other Australian family and they would be letting them know what is going on. The other Australian family are the Linklater's. I know they know about the www.cannonballrun.info website however they have never made contact (I need to respect that they haven't contacted me for whatever reason). I have been in contact with the Pritchard's since they reached out some 6 or 7 years ago.

I get that your thoughts are that I have to get the Japanese Families involved. There is a level of respect that also needs to occur. Maybe they don't want to be involved. I have a friend that lives in Japan and I have sent him an email to ask for more information about the letter I have been sent from the Japanese drivers wife some years ago.

Your last question is easy to answer. "Because I can". I coach people on having amazing lives, that's what I do, and it's what I love doing. These people are not having an amazing life and I can make a difference to them. I am all about 'contribution to others'

What's missing for you is a back ground of relatedness on me. Maybe this will help. Tomorrow I go to a meeting where I am on the board of DonateLife (The Government Organ and Tissue donation people.) They asked me to be on the board (About a year ago) to give them the perspective of what it is like being on the receiving end of a phone call that says "Hey can we have your family member that died a few hours ago so that we can get the organ and tissue from his body... we need an answer now as we only have a small window of opportunity." Ironically I am not a person that had natural empathy. I was a highly structure business person, as far as I was concerned empathy was for whimps. Now the government consults with me to comment on how we can bring more empathy to their conversations. I don't get paid for that. It's my job to ensure that the business side of Organ and Tissue donation never gets seen by people like you that may get 'that' phone call one day.

I am also the founding member of the Pay It Forward Australia movement. This has me be part of a global initiative to cause good in the world. For no other reason than because I can. And yes... I hear you when you say there are children and animals that need help... and there are so many causes... I have chosen this project because I have a certain relatedness. I was there in 1994, I know what it's like to loose a family member that is younger than you, and I know what my Dad went through when he lost a son. And of course I love exotic cars but then again who doesn't. This is what I do... I cause teams to create what is seemingly impossible, and have that team own they made it possible.

It has to start somewhere andecorp. I can only create magic one cause at a time... well actually that's not true I always have a few on the go at various stages. My point is, that I know myself as being able to cause anything to happen through communication, and when people work with me they get to know themselves as either having been part of something special that helped another for no reason, or they get to know themselves as being able to cause anything they want for themselves.

I trust this is enough information about me, but if not, I am on linkedin, everything about me is transparent, take a look.

To answer you very last line... this is true. Sometimes people will resist what they truly want for many various reasons... usually I have found in coaching them it's a fear of something. The Prichard's have a fear about how this will sit with them and the memories it will dig up. My fear is they will live the rest of their lives with this fear. I'm not up for that.

Really.... this is great. I want to acknowledge you for letting me know what was there for you. Others may think what I am doing is a bit 'weird'... so this may answer a few questions or fill in some gaps for others. It's how I am wired really, "how can I make a difference, how can I contribute to others?" I suppose really... I love the feeling I get when I have made a difference to others. It's a good feeling to chase don't you think ? :-)

On the ' they would only fly Virgin' comment. Qantas is the only airline that flys to Alice Spring and a likely sponsor.

I got why the Pritchard's would "Only Fly Virgin"

In their mind they have Virgin as the cheapest airline. They thought they would be doing me a favour by insisting on Virgin. They don't care who they fly with, they just want it to be cheap to fly.

Now that makes sense. :-)

A few extra things to note:

1) We are working on getting some accommodation at a camping ground close by. (Wouldn't that be a site as we ascend on the camp site.)

2) We have sent the great 'Aussie Joe Bugner's' people an email (Aussie Joe participated in the race)

3) We have sent an email to CAMS about having their Chaplain run the memorial on the day

4) Best of all... we have another angle on the ABC ... we are onto that lead now.

5) We even have a new facebook page that Warren Alchin (Driver of Car #29) has started up.

https://www.facebook.com/events/399529483506228/

We are making it “Friends of guests” are allowed. From what I know about Facebook it’s kinda like this ‘you know the band so they have left your name with the bouncer at the front door”

This is project has grown arms and legs in all directions.

Thanks again for asking all the questions, this has had me ask questions, and now when people ask me "why?" I have answers. A good group effort. Thanks again.

Hi Russ, I was involved in a big charity event for Make a Wish in NT quite a few years back. I cant remember all of the sponsors names but two that were very good to us were Voyages Resorts and Sabadin Petroleum. We had 2 vehicles for 7 weeks so Sabadin were awesome covering all fuel costs. From memory they own the Mobil franchise in NT and sponsor things like the Finke Desert race. I'll try and find my photos of the motor home that had all the sponsors names on it and pass them on to you.  Having something like the flying doctors receiving support would make businesses more interested in coming on board as sponsors. Make a Wish have a branch in Alice Springs which could be another charity to look at. They could have local people that would help with fundraising, organising events and names of businesses that may be possible local event sponsors.

Imparja TV came on board as well with a lot of local promotion so they may be worth talking to for local support on top of the ABC.

That anotherforurmuser....is absolutely awesome.

I'll get onto that.

Thanks so much. You have no idea how much this means to us for new leads to chase down.

Cant find the photos yet but others Ive remembered were Lasseters Hotel Casino and Bojangles Saloon. Bo's changed owners last year so I have no idea if the new owners would be as charitable as the previous owners were.

Sorry to dig up an old thread.  Has anything happened on this since last October?

Yep, we had the Channel Seven Sunday program on the go as well, however we haven't heard anything from them in a while, so we don't know if they are still interested in going. (Ironically I only sent the producer and email earlier today to find out if they are still going to be there.)

The good news is, the Pritchard's (Keith's parents and family) are going. They have booked the flights and accommodation, and after the 20th Anniversary near Alice Springs will be going to Darwin to visit their sons grave site. This is the really amazing stuff.

We'll be going as well. We'll probably fly to Alice Springs, hang around for a week or so and then train up to Darwin. We might hand around there for a week or so as well.

Anyone that is interested in coming along... of course come along. The big fan fare that I was looking to have.... I just couldn't get many others to see the same dream. The dream doesn't matter really though, the main goal of having the Prichard's get to their sons memorial for the 20th anniversary has been realised.

Thanks for asking where this is at. Maybe I should look to go to another media outlet... there is still time I suppose. Hmmm.

I'm disappointed we couldn't make the event bigger. This has been nearly two years on the making and all I could do was get the Prichard's to go, and organise my own family to go. When I got over that it's not about me and what I could organise... I realised... actually I got the Prichard's to go. I may have lost sight of the bigger picture... Having someone complete when they didn't see it themselves,... I caused that, and that's what is really important to me.

My recommendation would be talk to the people at NAMSC in Darwin, there will definitely be people interested in this as many of Keith and Tim's friends are still involved in one way or another.  Also, write a letter to the NT News and some local radio as well.  Try talking to the ABC in the Darwin office as they may be more sympathetic as opposed to the Sydney/Melbourne office.  Also, don't underestimate the power of Facebook, start a dedicated 20th Anniversary page and get everyone on this particular thread to share with like minded people.  That would be where I would start at, North Australia Motor Sports Club would be the first though.

I hear ya... but it's a lot of work for one person. I need a team of people that are like minded on the cause. Interested in being on a team to cause this? It's going ahead anyway so the rest is all just icing on the cake. I have one other person that ironically emailed me today as well. It's like all this has happened on this day for a reason I am not yet aware of.

I'll look for a way to contact NAMSC on line now and send them an email. Would you like to do the Facebook page? I am not a big facebook person.
