This is what jumped at me, apart from what amgsl55 said:
- the ABC email looks like you are offering to open up a hornets nest that can affect us (driving enthusiasts) negatively.
- why only the Pritchards - why not the family of the other Australian too?
- you have to get the Japanese families involved too
And also, why are you so involved in this? If you have not even met these people, why are you spending so much energy on them? I understand doing good deeds, but surely there are plenty of other things you can do that for, where it would be appreciated more, for example children and animals, who truly can't help themselves, rather than a couple that needs a stranger, that has never met them, to push them to visit their son's memorial and grave because they haven't managed to do so of their own accord in 20 years.
It just seems that you want this more than they do, which to me it seems strange considering you have never met them.
Okay, sorry I didn't know it could impact the driving enthusiasts community by opening up a hornets next. Can you tell me how this could happen as I am genuinely interested. I use to be a moderator of another car club for many years and I can honestly say that I had this experience in mind when I was putting this email together.
The Pritchard's are in touch with the other Australian family and they would be letting them know what is going on. The other Australian family are the Linklater's. I know they know about the www.cannonballrun.info
website however they have never made contact (I need to respect that they haven't contacted me for whatever reason). I have been in contact with the Pritchard's since they reached out some 6 or 7 years ago.
I get that your thoughts are that I have to get the Japanese Families involved. There is a level of respect that also needs to occur. Maybe they don't want to be involved. I have a friend that lives in Japan and I have sent him an email to ask for more information about the letter I have been sent from the Japanese drivers wife some years ago.
Your last question is easy to answer. "Because I can". I coach people on having amazing lives, that's what I do, and it's what I love doing. These people are not having an amazing life and I can make a difference to them. I am all about 'contribution to others'
What's missing for you is a back ground of relatedness on me. Maybe this will help. Tomorrow I go to a meeting where I am on the board of DonateLife (The Government Organ and Tissue donation people.) They asked me to be on the board (About a year ago) to give them the perspective of what it is like being on the receiving end of a phone call that says "Hey can we have your family member that died a few hours ago so that we can get the organ and tissue from his body... we need an answer now as we only have a small window of opportunity." Ironically I am not a person that had natural empathy. I was a highly structure business person, as far as I was concerned empathy was for whimps. Now the government consults with me to comment on how we can bring more empathy to their conversations. I don't get paid for that. It's my job to ensure that the business side of Organ and Tissue donation never gets seen by people like you that may get 'that' phone call one day.
I am also the founding member of the Pay It Forward Australia movement. This has me be part of a global initiative to cause good in the world. For no other reason than because I can. And yes... I hear you when you say there are children and animals that need help... and there are so many causes... I have chosen this project because I have a certain relatedness. I was there in 1994, I know what it's like to loose a family member that is younger than you, and I know what my Dad went through when he lost a son. And of course I love exotic cars but then again who doesn't. This is what I do... I cause teams to create what is seemingly impossible, and have that team own they made it possible.
It has to start somewhere andecorp. I can only create magic one cause at a time... well actually that's not true I always have a few on the go at various stages. My point is, that I know myself as being able to cause anything to happen through communication, and when people work with me they get to know themselves as either having been part of something special that helped another for no reason, or they get to know themselves as being able to cause anything they want for themselves.
I trust this is enough information about me, but if not, I am on linkedin, everything about me is transparent, take a look.
To answer you very last line... this is true. Sometimes people will resist what they truly want for many various reasons... usually I have found in coaching them it's a fear of something. The Prichard's have a fear about how this will sit with them and the memories it will dig up. My fear is they will live the rest of their lives with this fear. I'm not up for that.
Really.... this is great. I want to acknowledge you for letting me know what was there for you. Others may think what I am doing is a bit 'weird'... so this may answer a few questions or fill in some gaps for others. It's how I am wired really, "how can I make a difference, how can I contribute to others?" I suppose really... I love the feeling I get when I have made a difference to others. It's a good feeling to chase don't you think ? :-)
