Bought the beam axles G55 only to find I cant legally use the pathetic german Oris towbar rated at 140kg download. Stuck! Might have found a Hayman Reese solution but not sure until I visit the big city next week.

Simon, try Westfalia.  German tow bars.  Nice fit system, good ratings (this one is 350kg vertical).  I recently had this fitted to my wifes X5M.

P.S.  You don't have to have that big square hole on show all the time.  When the tow bar is removed all you see is the bumper.

Hmmm. So the Hybrid didn't really cut it then.
I'll stick to the V8S, which  my wife loves.
Happy wife, happy life and all that.

I didn't think they were ADR certified

I've called them and they will come back to me tomorrow. Thanks for the tip. I'll check the certification.

It says on their website they are ADR compliant  (I just checked, pheeew).  To be honest my mistake Goobs.  I just assumed buying from a distributer here and being German it would more than pass any compliance here.  They are the biggest TowBar manufacturer in Europe.

On second thoughts about the hybrid bullshit, its a disappointment at best and at worst a waste of space. I would hate to get one out of warranty, the nightmares, in saying that I'm sure it appeals to some lefty Balmain greenie who thinks they are saving the planet.

But anyone with half a brain would have to think twice about the car.
