What about factory warranties and things like that?????
It will be the importers/dealers responsibility unless the manufacturer wants the local dealers to honor the overseas warranty.
We might even see Kogan getting into this space!

Do you think Ferrari and their dealers who have tens of millions invested in the brand will just roll over?
I would suggest that they will do everything they can to poison privately imported cars, including denying access to service, spare parts and warranty claims.
You can't do anything in the way of service to current models without access to the Italian factories service computers. Do you reckon Ferrari Australia will give an independent the password to access those? You can't order a part without giving a S/N .......... oops it's an import, can't help you.

Etc, etc

The govt could make it law that the above as you mentioned is mandatory.
Meeting women on the Internet? Remember, the more similarities u “magically” have, & the more she agrees with u, the fucking crazier she is.

...........if they want to....but will they care enough?

I like the idea, but i'm not too sure how it'll work in practice.

I'd be surprised, however, if someone like Ferrari didn't honour the warranty, regardless of where the car is purchased from.

I love my car. Buy your own

They could try; but who would enforce it and all they have to do is be seen to have systems in place.
You know how hard it is to get service now as it is at times. Imagine if you turned up with "the red headed step child" import car. You think they would go out of their way to help??

That was exactly my point...........

But remember, it's 12 months and under 4000km as I understand it so it's a second hand car.

It would be the same as me buying your 458 now, surely. But it's just coming in from another country.

Again, it sounds like a good idea but how will it work. What checks and balances will there be. What about local Rego departments?? What will they require........

Look at the old SEVS scheme, that was a great idea at the time until someone looked at it and said, you can't do that, what about ADRs and safety and blah blah blah..................so they introduced RAWS, which turned it into an expensive and pain in the arse process........

You just need one to break ranks and pick up the national servicing of imported cars.

Probably the one whose hurting the most from lost car sales.

I don't think it will be the servicing of the grey imports as there are always the happy Phil's to service them. What will be the problem for people is warranty issues. Try taking your new privately imported car to the dealer and ask them to fix something under warranty and they will say go have the ask the importer to fix it.

I can see that dealers or brokers will import cars and resell them and carry a warranty.
