You are right but it would still be fun for a few months. It would spice up Sunday morning runs and Tassie. And it would piss off the authorities who live to limit our freedom with no good purpose.  :p
would they not shoot you down in flames with the local D/L check?

I don't think they could if your passport showed that you lived OS for 6mths a year.

I can't see why. The system exists to allow temporary importation in many countries and that's exactly what it would be.

With amount of ks and your love of driving Mark.

It makes logic to own a car in Europe and go over , just 2 or 3 trips a year and say 10 days a time ,you would do 10k per year.

Agreed.

have you been approached at the Ferry terminal ,by Police at all?

Few mates just went over on there bikes ,and were said hello to ,asked various questions and warned re local speed limits.

In Tassie? No, but I'm not surprised.

it surprised me ,as I've never come across it in any trips I've done.

I'm going over latter in the year to do a classic rally ,taking the A45 Amanda can use it while I'm doing the rally, wants to do all the walks around the national park, then picks me up and we do a 3 or 4 day tour................at 90kph..to keep her happy.

Maybe they would consider legalising LHD cars. With such minimal traffic....

Just for what it's worth, unless they have changed the system, and that's always possible, you don't need to worry about using an Australian license with a LHD carnet import. I had a LHD rally car a few years ago which I bought in NZ and brought back and forward on carnet and never had an issue with a local license. Got pulled up a few times but like the cops did with my 993, they always said they just wanted to look at the car. Once I got all the paperwork out of the door net, the cops just went pale and told me to get on with it. Never got a ticket from them once!
