Historic rego here in SA is a fantastically cheap way to keep a car collection on the road! 90 days is actually very generous and no limitations as to where its driven. Does the VIC club reg still have restrictions on how far or where car is driven eg can a Vic club reg be driven interstate?

All going to change very soon. The Federation of Historic motor vehicles has been drip feeding info to clubs.

Biggest change is that 30 year rule is changing to a fixed dated 31/12/1978.

LHD rules to be lined up on the same date. So no 1980s supercars on LHD/Historic in the future.

Also annual inspections going to be introduced.

Just fill in the log book before you drive. You don't need to be on a club run. 90 days a year. I am going to put the horse truck on it as this year it hits 30.

Better get on it straight away as if you already have a car on historic rego the new 31 Dec 1978 cut off date will not apply.

Read the front page of the Sporting Car Club of SA magazine (Jan/Feb Edition)

Oh and if you get a speeding fine in a historic rego vehicles it doesn't come in the mail.

Traffic cops show up and check your Log Book to see if you have logged a trip on the day of the offence.

any idea if it is 31/12/1978 built date and older or is it first registered in SA before 31/12/1978? I had heard it could be the latter hence me trying to get my 2002 Turbo registered in SA soonest. It is currently on NSW rego!! Took it to Regency park 4 weeks ago - was all going smoothly until they asked for the heater to be turned on!! Next moment smoke galore - apparently the heater motor short circuited!! Needless to say did not get through Regency and now awaiting parts!!

Currently it's date of manufacture.
First date of rego wouldn't work because a lot of Historic Vehicles have never been registered in Australia before.
