I spent a great deal of time today looking at the yellow LFA at Brighton Lexus.

As expected, the build quality is impecabble. I like some of the design details, like the side vents near the rear windows - look great.

You look at it, you can instantly tell it would cost more than a LS600hL ($260k), so you are expecting $300k'ish and you would pay that for it. But $750k? NO WAY!

It looks like a luxury coupe with sporting pretentions, like the GTR35, not a supercar and certainly not a hypercar like it tries to be.
I cannot see ANYONE choose this over the cheaper 458, or Gallardo, or choose it over an Aventador.

Are they all sold? If all or most are spoken for, I guess the silly pricing is spot on. You are buying scarcity value. It could be a great used buy perhaps?

Oops my reply before didn't work. Oh well I basically went on a tangent about how the ls600hl looks like an over priced camry... Can't be bothered rewriting it off topic.

MHH I asked last week if they had all sold and apparently they haven't all sold, but the original order was expanded and I think the extra order of the cars have not sold???? But the original order (6 cars????) had all sold. Just off the top of my head.    I could be wrong though

Are the LF-A's for outright sale or are they on a type of lease/purchase from Lexus?

I remember reading something about them not being for outright sale

According to this article: http://mosman-daily.whereilive.com.au/lifestyle/story/double-trouble-3/, the original allocation was 5 (all accounted for), and this was increased to 10. Apparently Australia has the largest allocation behind Japan and the US.

I remembered reading something similar too, and found an article: http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/23/report-lexus-to-lease-not-sell-all-500-lfa-supercars-in-ord/ which says the LF-A can only be obtained through lease (over 2 years) in the US, after which it can be purchased outright.

Lease info: http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1043544_2012-lexus-lfa-pricing-details-lease-one-for-just-12398-44-per-month

Then I found this: http://www.autoblog.com/2010/08/05/lexus-allowing-outright-purchase-of-lfa-in-u-s-demands-right-o/, which states Lexus has allowed outright purchase, as long as the dealer gets first right of refusal to buy back the LF-A. This is consistent with this: http://www.autoblog.com/2011/07/07/ebay-find-of-the-day-2012-lexus-lfa-says-look-copper/.
