Earlier today I was pondering McLaren's sales numbers in the Australian market now that they have been here for nearly 4 years.
I didn't really have a clue so I looked up the official figures:

2012- 23 Cars
2013- 26 Cars
2014- 26 Cars
2015 (Jan-end April) 7 Cars.

Total Australian sales 82 cars.

Most months they seem to sell about 25-30% of what Ferrari sells.

I think that's pretty impressive for a newish brand...

I didn't think it was too bad; but not outstanding all the same.

I also found out that Tesla has declined to join the FCAI so their sales numbers wouldn't be reported in VFACTS. The reason given was that they could be misinterpreted and harm the Tesla share price.

I wonder how many unique buyers there are in those 82 sales. 50 maybe?

Do the official figures break it down by state or not?

Probably; but not in the searches that I performed. If you looked a little harder you would probably find it; but I was only interested in total sales.

There would have been a number of returning customers as they had that discount to compensate for the $100k retail price reduction; but you only got it if you traded your existing car for another McLaren within 2 years (?)

If you were to extract Ferrari number out and only consider the Ferrari V8 line (say 458 series only) then it would be an interesting comparison i.e. it may move to 50% of Ferrari equivalent product sales?

As an owner, you want the brand to sell enough to be viable, but not so many that it ceases to be rare and exclusive. McLaren now needs a model above the 650/675, ideally with a new chassis and different engine configuration. There's nowhere for a 650/675 owner to go - that leaves the brand vulnerable.

I think Porsche are doing that i.e. something below the 918 but above the 911?
