It seems our friends in Parliment namely one Nick  Xenophon has been at it again.

I have a friend who is importing some early cars from the US and has been hit by this new requirements
You have to be able to prove that what your importing doesn't have asbestos in any of the components
The US doesn't have an asbestos policy for car parts and therefore be aware.

The story goes this friend ticked the "no" box about asbestos components, but the customs people instantly put a red line through the are and he is now forced to have an inspection done on all the brake linings.
Either you attend the dock with all the equipment tools jacks and at a designated time and there is leeway in this remove the parts for testing, or they will do it and charge you accordingly.

Asbestos

Clearly a PITA, but asbestos really is deadly and the chinese have been slipping this stuff into everything, virtually all concrete style cladding used in construction ex china for the last 10 years is suspect.

Plus all the formaldehyde their products are soaked in.

Can't use the stuff here but importing such products to save $$$ is ok.
