Apparently Elon Musk wanted to call it the model E, because he wanted the model's

S, E, X

apparently he has an immature sense of humour like we all do LOL, but apparently the Model E designation is still copyright to Ford :(   party poopers

The word is that the D is the double motor version of the S. The chassis was designed to take a front motor to create an AWD version. Heading into the northern winter, this would make sense.

That's going to give it some serious performance...

wow, if this is a double engined model S, that would be a great performance step.

I guess as the Model X will be 4wd, its probably necessary to offer an S with it as well. you cant have the SUV being a better performer than the flagship.

Very interesting as the engineering would be quite simple IMO compared to a purely mechanical AWD setup

That's the thing about electric cars. They make ICE cars seem incredibly complicated.

Are there any plans to offer a smaller car than the S?

Say, something sized like a 3 series?

Yes, that's the model E, coming after the X.
