wasn't a new testarossa around $400k back then? That makes the Countach seem cheap to me.

Not sure what they were in 1985; but in 1989 they were $300k OTR in Oz after private importation.

Not if you didn't do tourist delivery, they weren't. I think what your dad and petho did saved $100k.

I love my car. Buy your own

No on two counts.
I ended up doing the importation on my Father's car as he passed away before it cleared customs. The saving was minimal; but the advantage was that you didn't need to fully comply the car with Australian Design Rules. They essentially accepted an English Spec car without any modifications.
Secondly, you could ONLY import a Testarossa via the Tourist delivery scheme. They were never sold as fully ADR compliant cars via the official dealer network here.

The first of that model series that was available from the dealers locally was the 512TR in late 1992.

are you sure the savings were minimal?? That's not how I remember it.

Regardless, $300k makes the $100k Countach sound cheap!

Absolutely positive the savings were minimal, something like a couple of percent. As I said, I had to do the customs clearance on the car myself.
I have the paperwork somewhere; but I can't be fucked looking for it.

Any thoughts on what the 964 Turbo 3.6 is worth in this crazy market?

The last one I remember for sale was a yellow WA car for about $120K, but that's well before this recent old-Porsche-price-bubble.

years ago I thought about one that was 90k. it had the most hideous purple interior and I was short on the 90k so passed.

now I would kill for the purple interior in one

I wonder if we looked at the same one. It had a big rear wing. I actually put down a deposit and the bloke crashed it before delivery. What a clusterf*ck.
C'mon, do it!

Porsche had a weird fetish with Purple in the early 90's.
They had a demo 911 in that odd looking light purple colour that I drove and thought yuk how hideous.

Of course I now own a purple car :p
