Dunno; but you can colour photocopy notes, treat them with a chemical and then pass them off in busy shops as the real deal

Pretty common in suburbs with Bikie dens. We got hit periodically until I cracked the shits and started printing photos off the security footage and putting them at the registers with explanatory captions :D
Haven't been hit since.
Method is also the only effective means of stopping theft.

They cut it out and replace it with a transparency.  The better efforts have the stars printed, the crap versions (in pic) have hand painted stars.
Another give away is how the note is cut. In the crap version above it is hand cut and irregular. The good versions are cut with a guillotine.
I don't know what they treat the paper with; but it makes it feel more like plastic than paper.
The quick and fool proof test is to crunch the note up. The fake stays crunched and the real springs back. The paper fake also tears as easily as any other paper.

So much for our currency being counterfeit proof.

The thin stuff that was almost the same as the bank notes got banned............I think they even sent someone around from the Dep of Justice(or some such Dep) to collect the products from the Stationery stores to be destroyed........that's what I was told anyhoo.
