I'm hoping to drive to Sydney after Christmas.  Any suggestions of a more interesting route than the shortest one?  Through the Snowy Mountains perhaps?  I'm guessing the family will fly and I can go where I damn well please, so detour suggestions are welcome.

Or maybe this?

Could go via Thredbo then up the coast from Bega. I'll be up there over that period.

Hey Mark.

I would suggest mountains and coast road. Everything else is pretty straight and boring.
We should all meet up if time allows and do a RNP with all the Sydney folk.

What you plan on driving up?

Joel, I'll need a passenger car in Sydney, so probably M5.

I like smaller back roads, tiny towns, and a sense of being alone in the world
have driven something similar to this years ago, I believe its all sealed roads

the first part is the boring bit, SA needs some roads across the border heading east from coonalpyn to hopetoun in vic
I tried to find a road once, joining emu flat road and edgerley road across the border

Being a Keith boy, I know Emu Flat Road but I've never driven into Victoria that way.  Is it possible?  My map says no...

I'm with you on going the least-travelled route.  Much more interesting.
