Pretty sure it would transfer to SA otherwise it would diminish to purpose of it.

7th paragraph down, page 1.

NSW docks three points off your licence if you’re caught

and in answer to the O.P.'s query, yes regardless of what state the licence is issued

The NSW RTA might have double demerits. Say Victoria isn't. I drive in NSW on a Victorian licence and I pay the NSW penalty.

yes, as explained in the same link paragraph 6 page 1.

A spokesman for VicRoads says double demerits will apply to Victorian drivers in NSW over the holiday period.

That link seems inconclusive to me. If the penalty is that which would apply in the offender's home state, it would seem contradictory or illogical to adopt the host state's demerit penalty. But I'll be driving as though the double penalty applies whatever.

This link is the relevant one, I should have posted that first, it's in the Whirlpool thread.

The NSW highlands don't have as much to offer as Vic but this route through is some of the best in my opinion. I've driven it a few time on the way to/from wagga.

If you're coming from Albury then I would recommend you take the northern loop through Cabramurra rather than south through Thredbo. The road between Khancoba and Thredbo is nice but not nice driving, very narrow (1.5 lanes for most of it) and quite busy so you are bound to be stuck behind someone.

The drive up the coast is mostly a non event but there are a couple of detours you can take to make it more interesting. Through kangaroo valley and down the Macquarie Pass (http://goo.gl/maps/CSDYM) and through the National Park between Wollongong and Sydney (http://goo.gl/maps/biyoo)

I doubt it. Our parliament voted against double demerits.

When you are in NSW you're subject to their laws AND penalties I would have thought.

Vic doesnt have double demerits either but they apply if you offend in NSW at the wrong times, I'd be surprised if that wasn't the case in SA.

From a lawyer on another forum...

If you are caught speeding etc interstate, of course you can be fined and demerit points may be applied although in many cases it appears that demerit points 'accrued' interstate somehow disappear and are never applied. It is worth noting that demerit points (if applicable) will be applied in line with the licencing state's demerit point schedule. If a QLD licence holder accrues what would ordinarily be 3 demerit points in NSW during a double demerit period (and would therefore constitute a 6 point penalty), only 3 demerit points would be applied in QLD (assuming a similar offence in QLD would attract 3 demerit points) due to QLD not having double demerit periods (disregarding multiple speeding offences).

Mark.I've got  some great mapping roads i did in 2004 in Cobra on the Mille run,if you can get yourself to Wagga Wagga then onto Cootamundra,Harden,Yass,to Canberra via the Barton hwy, stay overnight at Canberra.
Next morning Monaro hwy to Cooma to Merimbula then up the coast.
or go the other way Snowy moutain hwy to Threadbo stay overnight there .
next day Threadbo,Jindabyne,Cooma,Merimbula and up the coast.
anotherway, one of the best drives I've done is..from Albury down to the Murray valley hwy,Carryong onto the Alpine way to Threadbo stay over night and mix in the next morning the run from Threadbo to Merimbula and up the coast.
