Well done!

Did you turn around and come straight back?

Um, no. :p

Porsche Centre Darwin have kindly offered to keep the car in their showroom for a couple of weeks. That should be enough time to fly back for it, or to find transport.

I've never, in my life, had such a good cross country thrash. It's probably ruined me from enjoying long distance driving back home. It's amazing what a difference the 130km/h speed limit makes to enjoying a fast car, especially when the driver interprets it somewhat loosely. ;)

The GT3 is sensational for press-on driving. The animated steering, the revvy engine, the tight ride, the snug seats. I'd love to try a new Turbo S for comparison.

Today's drive almost had some corners - well, long sweepers anyway - and a few hills. But the strongest memory I'll have of this drive is the quaint sign the NT highways people have erected here and there. It says the name of the next town, the distance (always a fair way off), and a half-hearted suggestion to "Drive Carefully" - and is always followed by the straightest, smoothest, longest stretch of open road you've ever seen. Who says engineers have no sense of humour. :)

Any issue with fuel range/quality?

The drive sounds as good as I remember. I bet the Porsche dealer loved the idea of keeping the car on show for a few weeks. Its a wonder they didnt offer to drive it down to Alice for you. Sounds like you had a great day. Ive only done it in summer, would have looked great with everything nice and green.

The economy is quite good considering the constant and enthusiastic overtaking. The car has been running mostly on 95. No issues. Some of the servos are pretty basic, but they are well spaced.

It gets lusher bit by bit. Here's Adelaide River.

nice drive... is it worth while doing over a week and stopping to see the sights?

Yes, but if you want to get home with a car and see sights, figure on two weeks. It's a four day minimum each way doing nothing but driving.

You should do the Bathurst 12 hour race.

The winner of this year's race did 1839km in 12 hours.

Walk in the park for mhh.....
