Haven't seen this in any forums i frequent so i thought i'd post it up.

I've seen a couple of things circulating about point to point cameras coming to Sydney roads but can't verify if they're official or not,

thoughts?

don't think its true but worth discussing anyway

They have Point to point jobs on the Hume Fwy down here already!

They are easy to spot, as they are several poles on the inside median strip.
If you are speeding when going past they will nab you there and then.

But they also record your travel time between them, and they use number plate recognition to do it.

I hope they stay down there. Kelsa once told me you don't have warning signs to tell you fixed speed cameras are there, Freaky maaaan

i heard they only did trucks....

when i was driving back from sydney to adelaide, we were somewhere along the hay plains and we came up to one... but we had to stop for 2 hours before we got to it because a truck had slid off the road about 800m from it. apparenly the driver was overtaken by another truck and run off the road... a likely story...  :tilt:

interesting part was the trailer was loaded with $250k worth of scotch... none broken.

I think that is only the case in NSW, they are mainly used to make sure that the trucks are stopping for breaks as well.

I have heard that most states are going to deploy this technology. Most of the fixed speed cameras down here are signed but if not the Vic police site lists where they all are anyway.

Going by that site it was posted Jan 2008. If anyone got done by a point to point camera it would of made the news cause no-one on the M5/M7 sticks to 100. Also they would need to change the state laws.

Checking RTA site they only mention fixed cameras/locations http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/roadsafety/speedandspeedcameras/fixeddigitalspeedcameras/index.html

Everyone in NSW at least can rest easy again :)

I seem to recall that in england they spent millions on these but the system assumed you would stay in the same lane, so everyone just had to change lanes before the second camera
not sure I believe that of course
