So what's puting a handbrake on this?

Wife
Cost
Value

If you buy something unobtainable to aus ( p1/918) then when it came time to sell you would get your money back.
That said, a 650s costs less in Europe than the depreciation you will get on your current car here so no big deal either.

Let's say you go there three times a year. What's the rental cost on a porsche? I'm assuming 5-10k for a week you're restricted on countries. Probably the same cost as the depreciation.

Wife - unaware as usual. :p
Cost - cars are cheaper there, aren't they?
Value - hard to justify but some guys buy yachts and that doesn't look like value to me either.

Registration and insurance were looming as problems because (I think) most countries require you to be a resident before you can register a car and insurers aren't that keen either.  Looks like that's sorted if the car can live in the UK - see first post. After that, not much is in the way.

The hold up is deciding what to get. And getting around to it.

Wife - unaware as usual. :p  I think you are more than qualified at getting around that.
Cost - cars are cheaper there, aren't they? If you get a p1 or 918 and keep an extensive log book I would be planning to bring it back here in a few years (can you once you have logged up a year OS with your car)
Value - hard to justify but some guys buy yachts and that doesn't look like value to me either. Could break even once you bring the car back here as the first road registured in AUS
