While looking into these a few years ago, at least in SA the rules were fairly easy to understand.

I think there were 2 options. Lp1 and lp2. One was for trikes (sit on a saddle) and the other for car type, sit in a seat.

The issue that ruined the idea for me was the lp2 which was basically like the campagna t-Rex etc... Would need an engine that passes car emissions. So no chance of a bike engine.

Bikes pass emissions & noise tests as part of the ADR just like cars do.

Yes, however they have different standards. it had to meet CAR emissions. Which bikes don't.
