I've got some business in Melbourne to to in the next fortnight or so and got thinking...

Would it be crazy to drive to Melbourne with an early start, do the couple of meetings late arvo, catch the ferry to Tassie, do a 750km loop in time to get back to the ferry, overnight to Melbourne then drive back to Adelaide the next day?  Are there awards for this kind of stupidity?  :p

Hehe, I recall after the first Tas trip we were wondering why the Melbourne guys didn't frequently just hop the overnight ferry every month or so for a quick day of driving.

Nutts, crazy.
Some would even call it dumb.

So it should be a good day out.

The Darwin Awards spring to mind.

you have to overnight in Hobart

youd be pushing for time to make the night ferry back, but not only that just the 350+ km south from devenport along the a10 takes so much out of you since it's all seat of pants twisties

stopping in Hobart makes it a more relaxing round trip

what route did you have in mind?

We usually do over 700km on Day 1 in our weekend trips.  Then we do 600km on Day 2.  I just thought it would be fun to see how much of Tassie could be covered in a day. :o

You are right about Hobart though - it is a good stopover that makes the trip more relaxing.
