UPDATE 11.45am: PARAMEDICS are astonished a woman survived after driving her car off a multi-storey carpark in Melbourne's CBD.

The 41-year-old woman drove her small silver sedan off the sixth level of the Kim Lim carpark on the corner of A'Beckett St and Anthony St just before 9am, for unknown reasons.

The car struck the roof of an adjoining building, ricocheting towards a smaller building nearby.

The car then landed on the passenger side, wedging itself sideways in an alleyway, trapping the woman inside.

Paramedic Matthew Riddle said the first crew arrived to find the car on its side in a small laneway.

"The car landed on the passenger side and the 41-year-old woman was still in the driverís seat, supporting herself so she didnít fall," he said.

"There was only about 30 centimetres between he car and the wall on either side of the laneway, so we had to edge our way in against the car to get to the woman.

"Initially it was difficult to get to the woman and assess her injuries."

Mr Riddle said because of the space restrictions it took about 20 minutes to free her.

"Once she was in the ambulance we bandaged a severe cut to the top of her head," he said.

She was then taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.

"The woman is incredibly lucky not to have suffered much more serious injuries," Mr Riddle said, describing the height of the fall from the sixth floor as being about 30 metres.

Police were called to the car park at 8.50am.

Acting Senior Sergeant John Mason said the silver station wagon was believed to have hit the side of another building during the fall.

"I was pretty shocked when I saw it," Sen Sgt Mason said.

"The state of the car is very much damaged, as you would expect. It's beyond repair."

MFB Senior Officer Peter Pritchard said there appeared to be a section of railing hanging from the side of the building.

He said it could take days to remove the car, which remains wedged between the buildings.

glad that she survived.. but gee weezz....

Suspected sequence of events:
1. Reverse parked into car space, in a hurry.
2. Left gears in reverse. Right foot on brake.
3. Proceeded to touch up make up and put on high heels on left foot.
4. Lifted right foot of brake pedal in order to put on high heels on right foot.
5. Car began to move backwards.
6. Panicked and slammed the right foot down, missed the brakes and hit the gas instead...
7. Yelled "aaaaiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee........"
