from the skid marks it looks like they were sliding a bit... the thicker mark looks like the front right, which if is correct, the were going backwards before the corner.....  confused

Ok fair enough this is a thread for competitors and enthusiasts not a filthy tabloid, pic removed from thread.  But the image will be on the major news services at brekky tomorrow and on the front page of the 'tiser as a warning to anyone trying to avoid a bit too much circumspection over froot loops before heading out to tear up the tarmac.

Also - because of social media nowadays just wait until the morning when someone on a major news service publshes pics from their facebook/linked-in/etc account. hmm

Thanks, Dkabab. Gorgeous, isn't it?  The perspex air inlet on the bonnet is one of the unique competition-inspired details of this car that differentiates it from 'run of the mill' 250 GT Californias.

extremely!! i had a close up look and a quick chat with PV while he was waiting to do a stage. i commented on the perspex, and he said it was his favourite part of the car.

Good stuff! happy

BTW, I referred to this car as a SWB when we discussed it a few days ago.... I was incorrect, it's (clearly) a LWB.  Plus, the s/n is too early to be a SWB!  embarrassed

Muscle car flexes
STUART INNES

CLASSIC RALLY |Trailblazer's surprise sprint warning STEVE Glenney put the cat among the pigeons - or more correctly an old two-wheel-drive muscle car among the high-tech, turbocharged all-wheel-drive modern machines - in the Classic Adelaide yesterday.

The tarmac rally's prologue was a 3.82km sprint up the Eagle-on-the-Hill road to sort starting order for today's first of four days of competition.

Glenney and co-driver Clarrie Lang took their 1981 Holden Commodore up in 2mim 1.5sec to be clearly the fastest in the classic competition.

Second was Ian Wilson-Scott Dornan in a 1978 Triumph TR7 V8 (2:05.2) and third the 1989 Nissan Skyline GTR of Matthew and Dennis Sims (2:06).

Last year's Classic Adelaide winner Kevin Weeks-Bec Crunkhorn in their 1974 Porsche 911 RS with 2:08.3 were fourth in the classics.

It not only meant Glenney was almost 7sec quicker than last year's event winner but was equal in time to the fastest handful in the new category, modern competition.

In the moderns, Tony Longhurst (co-driver Geoff Burgess) clocked 1:59.8 in a special Subaru PM25 ahead of international GT racer Allan Simonsen (Matt Lee) on 2:01 in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo9.

Targa Tasmania and Targa New Zealand winner Tony Quinn-Naomi Tillett in a brand new Nissan GT-R managed 2:01.3 and Targa West winner Steve Jones-Ben Searcy in a similar GT-R were on 2:02.

Glenney, who comes from the Adelaide Hills, admitted he might have had a bit of local knowledge of the road.

"I drove up and down that road for 10 years when I went to school," he laughed.

When it was pointed out his effort in a 28-year-old Commodore was quicker than the Targa West winner in a modern Nissan GT-R, Glenney said: "It's a good start, isn't it? But we always try to be fastest, no matter what we are in."

He said the Commodore had been developed for classic rallying and boasted about 550 horsepower (410kW).

Longhurst, a two-time Bathurst 1000 race winner, said yesterday's prologue road was "beaut and smooth - I felt like I was on a race track again."

The 180 cars leave the Adelaide Hilton from 9am today with timed special stages near Inglewood, Kersbrook, Angaston. Birdwood and Cudlee Creek.

Jim Richards has withdrawn, unable to source a part for a damaged turbo on his Porsche.

Simon and I spoke to Gary as we were the car directly behind them. I cannot speak about the incident until we have been interviewed by CAMS and SAPOL. As the first to attend all i can say is that we were unable to assist due to severity of the incident. I ensured that we held a minutes silence to respect both driver and navigator. The paramedics tried with Gary but to no avail. Our video footage will be used as we were only 20 seconds after the fact. All photographs and video will not be posted.

All i can say is this, after going through the death of both parents and being orphaned without siblings and then going through a bitter divorce with everything that alone entails, the hardest thing I have ever had to do was as we approached the end the of stage after being at the scene for an hour was to speak to their service crew and tell them of what had happened. A policeman nearby called me over and I at first said to him that I hate his job and that he has the hardest job on the planet. He said what I told the service crew was the truth and very noble and that he does hate that part of his job.

We returned after some time to the Hilton where we went through counselling and then both Simon and I were on watch by some lovely people, its heart braking and I shed quite a few tears for what we witnessed and the resultant situation.
So if anyone wishes to ask for more information they wont get it. I need a decent nights sleep and tomorrow we will drive with their memories. RIP boys
