Headed up to Brisbane last night to check out the motorshow. Getting worse every year. I overheard a dealer saying it was the smallest Brisbane show ever. The majority of mass producers were. Some of the absentees included Mercedes (who I read today aren't going to Melb either), Aston, Mini, Jag, Lambo, Dodge and Chrysler.

Ferrari were there with the whole range, dark silver 612, red 430 and a dark grey 599 (which still didn't hide the ugly bits). Granturismo was there and very nice.

Other then that we saw the self parking Lexus which was entertaining. Very cool to hear nothing while the electric motor ran during the whole parking sequence.

Also there was the GTHO Phase 3 that is the Shannons auction on the weekend with a price guide of $700k+ Ridiculous.

Also the ugliest car award goes to Skoda for the Roomster, look it up it's worth the laugh

BRISBANE INTERNATIONAL MOTOR SHOW HELD OVER TO 2010

THE Brisbane International Motor Show, scheduled for 6-15 February next year, has been held over until 2010 because of a shortfall in exhibitor numbers resulting from the global economic downturn, organisers announced today.

The Australian Automobile Dealers Association (Queensland) said the cancellation of some manufacturer exhibition bookings and the decision of others to not book meant the show would not be financially viable or attractive to the public.

Organising Chairman Chris Beecham said the show, which has been staged since 1964, would now focus immediately on the next event in February 2010.

“We will return in 2010 with a fresh and relevant focus. Along with the economic circumstances that have caused this decision, the motor industry is clearly re-evaluating its involvement in motor shows and we will meet that challenge,” Mr Beecham said.

“We already had some new concepts to introduce in 2009 to attract exhibitors and show visitors and these will be included in 2010, along with other ideas developed from the feedback of car companies.”

Mr Beecham said Brisbane was not alone in its situation. The recent Australian International Motor Show in Sydney was without many brands, Los Angeles show last week was down and manufacturers were reviewing their commitments to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January.

“We appreciate the decisions of manufacturers and importers to not come to Brisbane has largely been forced upon them by budget cuts by their overseas masters,” he said.

“The overseas problems have come all the way down the line to the local level and we have to take responsible decisions. Without a number of key brands, the show would not have been attractive to the public who expect to see a comprehensive line-up of what the industry has for sale.”

2009 Brisbane Motor Show cancelled

THE Brisbane Motor Show, scheduled for February, has been cancelled.

Following a poor showing of exhibitors at the Sydney Motor Show last month, several car manufacturers had pulled out of the Brisbane event.

That, and the global credit squeeze and its impact on the car industry has been blamed.

Brisbane show organising committee chairman Chris Beecham says they would now focus on 2010.

Several car companies have called for fewer motor shows, claiming they cannot afford to exhibit at all shows every year.

Australia needs just one good car show a year.  I doubt Brissie will return.

It may come back. It is the only retail show of the circuit. It will be interesting to see the sales results for Q1 2009 in Qld - will there be a drop, or will it be the same?

But me thinks it will be the same, so you may be right!

Can you give us ballpark figgers or at least %'s of who paid what for a gig at the shows?

A red coloured Australian, but US owned, manufacturer would spend about $150k for their floor space in Sydney.

Given cost of hosting event in Darling Harbour I would think that the FCIA would be raking in a few million from the show from manufacturers. VACC in Melb would be similar.
