I'm in for an overnighter.

If there are enough cars to put on a show perhaps the local rotary club may be able to put on a fund raising sausage sizzle.

You must be psychic. The locals want to put on a show  :)
C'mon, do it!

What's the distance Melb - Broken Hill? Or is it best done via Adel?
You make something idiotproof, they'll make a better idiot.

840 km melb to broken hill
you certainly dont want to come via adelaide, that would be close enough to 1300km

its about 800km from melbourne to adelaide

the drive from melbourne is a lot nicer, castlemaine, bendigo, mildura, wentworth

plenty of b roads to substitute for those that are closely patrolled, places for good food and 98 octane fuel

this only applies if you are like me and find the journey itself is the highlight, and enjoy cruising around small towns you may never see again
