Have you done it?  It's pretty damn scenic past Pt Augusta if you are in the right car.
Yeah, drove it 3 or 4 times a year 2004-08...maybe thats why its less scenic to me. You need the right car like you said. I did it mostly in a 944, not amazing but it did a great job...
To me its got some scenic stretches, I love seeing the salt flats in the distance and some of the moon/landscapes. Id say its about 50/50 scenic, boring.
Its the drive to Pt Augusta that I hate the most, when you turn right at Augusta you get that thank God I'm finally here feeling.

I havent driven it in a pack so that would probably make a great difference and end up with a few fun testosterone filled moments.
Driving in a group can make a boring drive a lot more interesting.

Yes, we had walkie talkies and had a lot of laughs.  Overtaking grey nomads in convoy is fun - they always want to talk cars when you meet up at the petrol stops.  I don't recall being bored at all.

For those who don't know the roads - they are in great condition mostly and better than average at all times.  You need to keep spaced out - for safety and to prevent stone chips if you don't have a clearbra.  But it is easy driving and not tough on the car.  We are on tar the whole way.

OK, let's talk dates in the private section.

I've noticed my missus isn't replying to my text on the dates. Uh oh.  :o

Friggin' heaps. :D

About 3,000km round trip from Adelaide and about 2,500km  approx if we truck the cars to Alice - depending on exactly what we do.
