Would motorsport insurance cover the Targa leg or is it too limited?

I don't know.
I have never looked into it

If you put you car on a track or a closed road Shannon's insurance is gone.

Quote
You are not covered if your motor vehicle or motorcycle is
being driven/ridden:
on a race track or testing ground or a closed road, or
whilst you are participating in a course conducted,
advertised, promoted or designed to improve high
speed driving skills or to improve or prepare for any
form of motor sport.

Additional racing cover is available, but it only paid out $20k last time i checked.

RACING COVER
Available with: Comprehensive
Applies to: Motor Vehicles & Motorcycles
✓ If your motor vehicle or motorcycle is over 60 years old, or
this option is shown on your certificate, subject strictly to
the terms shown on your certificate, we will pay for loss or
damage to your motor vehicle or motorcycle if at the time
of loss or damage you are driving or using your motor
vehicle or motorcycle whilst participating in, preparing for,
practicing for or familiarisation for a motor sport event, but
only if the event is either:
an event sanctioned by a motor sport governing body,
and your participation in that event requires a licence of
any kind issued by a motor sport governing body and
you are the holder of such a licence, or
an event which has been approved by us in writing or
by way of endorsement to your policy.

I assume I have no insurance while participating in a targa or on the track.

But back onto the funside
think of the gorge completely clear of cars and both sides of the road to be used  :D

during targa I was more worried about being covered for the touring stages on open roads between the stages, being hit by some moron and possibly not being insured was a worry

On the transport sections between special stages you have full Shannons coverage.

insurance.
you are correct for the targa part.

That was part of my decision process with picking up the subi.
The Gt4 could work well for you.
Shack had the boxster
Mr Uber has the elfin

there are options.

also do not race drive to yours and the cars ability

What did I ever do to you to be given a death warrant!??????    :D

Get someone to trade me a Exige Cup 260 against the Elfin and I'm there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
C'mon, do it!
