JUST THOUGHT I,D GET YOUR OPINIONS ON THIS .I HAD AN ACCIDENT IN A NEW FIAT PUNTO , NOT MY FAULT AND TOOK IT TO THE PANEL SHOP WHO IS RESTORING MY 308 FOR REPAIR . HE ADVISED ME AS IT WAS HIT VERY HARD ON THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL THAT THE K FRAME IS BENT AND WILL NEED REPLACING . THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAS COME TO THE PARTY ON MOST THINGS BUT SAYS THE K FRAME CAN BE REPAIRED . I WAS TOLD BY MY PANEL BEATER THAT IT WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED . LOOKS LIKE IM IN FOR A BIG FIGHT . ALSO THE CARS VALUE IS $18000 THE REPAIR BILL IS $10000 WITHOUT THE K FRAME WHICH IS JUST UNDER $2000 SHOULD THIS CAR BE A WRITE OFF ON ECONOMICS ALONE . THE CAR IS NOT GOING THROUGH MY INSURANCE [SHANNONS ] BUT THROUGH THE OTHER PARTY RACV . THANKS IN ADVANCE MICHAEL

Mick,

You can lodge a claim through your insurance (Shannons) since it is not your fault... You have your right to choose where you want your car to be repaired... Then Shannons will bill the other party's insurance company for the full amount... always deal through your own insurance company... easier that way!

cheers,

richie

Agreed, good advice above. The missus had the same issue - another car hit her, we called Shannons and they dealt in full with the at fault driver and their insurer as well as letting us pick the repair shop and validate the repair was as expected.
C'mon, do it!

THANKS GUYS , THE THING IS I HAVE GONE THROUGH MY INSURANCE SHANNONS AND THEY WILL FIX OR REPLACE AND THEN GO AFTER THE MONEY FROM RACV . IT IS  SHANNONS ASSER  HO IS WANTING TO REPAIR THE K FRAME NOY REPLACE IT . SURELY THERES A DUTY OF CARE TO REPAIR THE CAR TO THE STANDARD IT WAS ORIGINALLY OR REPLACE . I HAVE SINCE SPOKEN TO OTHER REPAIRERS AND HAVE BEEN TOLD NOBODY EVERY REPAIRS THE K FRAME .  IT IS A SMALL CAR AND FROM MY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WITH SMALL CARS IF THINGS ARENT RIGHT IT JUST WON,T TRACK STRAIGHT . MAYBE I,M BEING A BIT OVER THE TOP BEING A FIAT , BUT I THOUGHT THAT,S WHAT I PAID INSURANCE FOR . ANY THOUGHTS CHEERS

Get an independent assessor, thats what Aircon did for the GT4 accident.

Another thought.... If they ask you to put anything in writing, use lower case. ;)

You can certainly get details from other repairers and ring shannons to say you're not happy with the approach. The assessor should be acting in your best interests regardless, and if you're spending time/money chasing up other opinions then it's worth getting on the phone to them and politely asking for a supervisor if the person handling your case isn't being active enough.
C'mon, do it!
