Out-of-control Ferrari hits women standing outside home

Two women standing outside their house in Lidcombe last night were seriously injured after being hit by a $700,000 Ferrari driven by a 25-year-old, police say.

The V12-powered Ferrari 612 Scaglietti crashed into a parked Toyota Camry on The Boulevard, a quiet residential street, about 9pm, police said.

The black Ferrari kept skidding after the impact, knocking over a brick wall on the corner of The Boulevard and Hayes Street, police said.

The two injured women were believed to have been standing behind the Camry at the time of the crash.

A 40-year-old woman sustained a fractured right leg, while a 68-year-old woman had a fractured pelvis, police said.

They were in a stable condition at Westmead Hospital this morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.

A resident, who lives across the street, said she ran outside after hearing a "really big crash".

"I saw a grandma. She was lying down ... she seemed pretty severely injured," she said.

"She asked me [in Cantonese] how the accident happened, and I said I wasn't really sure."

The elderly woman's son confronted the 25-year-old driver, accusing him of reckless driving, the resident said.

"The man [the driver] said, 'Before you say anything, it's not what you think,'" she said.

The resident said of the Ferrari driver: "He was wearing a suit, I think. He looked pretty decent, someone that was dressed not bad, like not really dodgy or anything."

The driver, who police said was a "local", returned a negative breath test for alcohol, but police are still running blood and urine tests, a spokeswoman said.

Police have not confirmed whether the driver owned the Ferrari.

A number of surrounding streets were blocked off for six hours while officers from the Crash Investigation Unit examined the site.

The Scaglietti, which retails for $698,000, was until last year the top of the range Ferrari model. The Herald has been told that only 54 cars of that model are registered in Australia, with about 20 registered in NSW.

Ummm Looks like speeding to me as that road is 50kph residential road, I really doubt doing the speed limit would cause that much damage...
