Q: Formula One was due to switch from 2.4 litre V8s to 1.6 litre, four-cylinder turbo engines in 2013. Now, subject to FIA approval, the teams hope the move will instead be to 1.6 litre V6 turbos in 2014. Are you happy with the postponement and the change?


Mclaren-Mercedes Technical director - Martin Whitmarsh : Yes to both. The important bit is that I am happy that we have agreement between the manufacturers - they have all agreed and endorsed this, which is extremely positive. The teams have agreed it. It was agreed overwhelmingly within the Formula One Commission yesterday. So I think thatís positive because, clearly, thereís been a range of different opinions expressed, so to achieve a consensus amongst all the parties was very positive.

agree on anything goes to a point, but I think fuel stops are not needed and make for interesting strategies...

as long as there are plenty of tyre stops, that's all the action in the pits you need.

They way teams deal with diminishing fuel load is a real ground leveller IMO.

OR, run most of the races as currently run, but then throw in a few enduros.... maybe a ~4 hour race with a fuel stop and even driver change????? GT style

Monaco was the first race Pirelli introduced the super soft tyre which was otherwise known as the "option" tyre opposed to the "normal" soft compound ( prime ), I definetly agree and I've always said it myself, if your a manufacturer who thinks they can make some power and have the money to do so, then enter F1.. so obviously it's not a sport for everyone which makes it what it has been and still is, exclusive and unique.. Now that tyre degradation has made teams think more and drivers more aware, it would have been even better to see refuelling being a part of team strategies. Also the DRS is the F-duct legalised by the FIA which has made all the difference in terms of overtaking apart from skill so we can only hope that our sport and these machines aren't compromised based on the world's problems..

For sure the V10 era was best sounding of all time.. the Ferrari V10 was like a transformer having sex with an italian supermodel   :thumbsup: But still if the 1.5L V6 proposition goes through, I say bring back the 80's!  :goodvibes:
