Im a big fan of a proper manual gearbox, but it seems that in this day and age, to go fast consistently in the big coin company, its gotta be flappy paddled.... Id still rather a proper box for track work though...

actually, no.... on the road, the stick is better IMO, on track, you'd be mad to NOT have F1 shift.... (that works properly ie 430/599)

i think production wise it is simpler and more efficient to stick the same gearbox in each car

I know what your saying, allot of respect for that, i was shocked when the F430 came out and was red lining it at 8400rpm if i remember.....

the 430 was a (small) step backwards in rpm from the 360....

360 have 5 valve per cyl, 430 have 4..... but that's got more to do with available space for valves, as the 360 bore is small.

430 (and 458) have big bore.... which means it's easier and more sensible to have 4 valve per cyl

although..... you could cram 5 in there...... but would the extra complexity be worth while?

or I wonder if the direct injector is in the way to have the 5th valve there...

I'd love to see some internal cyl head/combustion chamber pics of 458

yeah but with the sort of money these cars costs, they wouldnt want to improve production efficiency at the expense of annoying customers

Probably, still rather the proper manual though, nothing wrong with a proper heel-toe downshift...

The front tyre and wheel is STILL too narrow IMO

430 are rubbish on track in std form..... terrible understeer as front tyre overheats very easily

458 has same width wheel tyre, and ~80 more BHP!

But, lets get 'em on the road before we worry about track stuff!

what's right about plucking 4th when you wanted 6th?

7 speeds means 4 selector rails.... way too easy for human to mess it up!
