Right, but anything significant?

No,but that wasn't the question.....like you I, tend to be quite specific ;).......although those BB's seem to be doing well and Chris Harris has bought a ANOTHER 512, and EVo Mag loves the F50 as does Car which is amusing in retrospect because at the time they all hated it!

Back to the original question.....

This statement regarding V12's quite often gets lost in translation along the way....

Meaning that yes you may lose more money on a V12, however this is based on the fact that they cost more to start with.

For example;

2007 - 599 was $700k new. 2nd hand they are now $250k. (35.7% retained value)

Vs

2007 - 430 was $500k new. 2nd hand they are now $180k. (36% retained value)

Of course the 599 lost $450k and the 430 lost $320k.

This is exactly why people come up with statement....

It's a percentages game with all cars. They will all follow much the same curve, give or take.  You get the odd exception to the rule; but generally the percentages are much the same.

I always wonder how someone can get into a position to purchase an exotic car and not grasp a concept like that... Obviously its percentages.  Just like investing 10k and making 10k is a better performing investment than investing 500k and making 100k...

I understood the question to be about more modern day Ferrari.
For example, a 599 v 430 or a F12 v 458.
Anyone can google search v12 Ferrari's but the question was do they depreciate more than the v8.
Some cars like the ones mentioned are rare to find or are non existent in Australia.

Maybe someone can help me out here too......when these classic v12's were made, did Ferrari have a v8 model also going at the same time so as to compare prices now?

Oops, just read second page of thread. Basically i agree with CM to a degree. But my opinion is that in a couple more years, the 599 and 430 will be similar money.

Yes, my question relates to modern cars IE 599 VS 430. If you bought a 430 vs 599, which one will depreciate the most from today, based on today's second hand prices. When private imports start coming I guess they get whacked again. It looks like this is what happened to 360's. Am I right there? The point of my question is: it's all very well worrying about maintenance costs, but it's the depreciation that really hurts the hip pocket.

My understanding is the parallel import issue that affects 360's has been pretty much closed on F430's, 599 etc.

From a personal opinion point of view, I have always felt if depreciation is a major concern perhaps these type of exotics aren't right .....if when it is no longer an issue and they are a source of enjoyment rather than a financial burden is the right time to get in and just really enjoy.

Cars particularly in the last 20 years are all affected by depreciation at a greater rate than years before for various reasons ....best of luck if this conversation is helping you decide to get in or not
