Hi Guys,  Just purchased a Testarossa.  Having trouble getting insurance. I am 43, rating 1..golden haired candidate. Seems since i have not owned a ferrari before, no one wants to insure me. I own a BMW and a Benz. So what's the issue?  Help is appreciated, and any words of wisdom on my TR, which is still to arrive..Regards Dean

Are you going through an insurance broker, or just doing the ring-round yourself?

Who have you tried?  Unless there's anything else significant you haven't disclosed here I don't know why you'd be rejected.

tried shannons, VGL and just car.  Nothing to disclose.  rating 1, no speeding fines, no convictions  etc.....They reckon that because i have no history of owning a ferrari  and the value of the vehicle, they are not willing to insure.  I have 10 company cars including 2 benzes 1 bmw  all insured with AAMI.  AAMI will not insure a Testarossa because the car was never imported by Ferrari Australia

yep...it has got me totally confused.  348,355 etc no problem to insure...because they were locally delivered vehicles.  Who do you guys insure with?

Did you import the car personally?  It's not like there's a shortage or TRs here to reference.

That does sound weird.

I personally imported my car a couple of years back.  It's also rare as RHS - not in the same price bracket, but really that should'nt be a reason.

You're going to have to jump up a few levels at Shannons, or go and see them in person.

Well, price is irrelevant it seems, he said he could insure a 348 or 355, both of which are worth at least as much as a Testarossa, if not a good deal more.  There's something else we don't know.

Hi Guys..truly not hiding anything.  The car is being imported from UK.  I have organised it thru a car dealer friend of mine that deals in prestige cars.  I don't think it would matter who imported it.  Once the car is here, then that's when i will insure it.  I have been doing the ring around.  Shannons  knocked back because i have never owned a Ferrari.  Althought when i was 23 they insured me behind the wheel of a Merc 450SLC coupe..which had some power for its day.  Now at 43 they are knocking me back on a TR that will only see the road on a sunny sunday afternoon.  I have had a '77 Stateman (owned since virtually new) insured with Vigil. (the stateman may see the road once a year)   Vigil will not insure a TR..they reckon its an odd ball and too much of a risk...Just cars would insure me for a max value of $100K, with huge restrictions and excesses.  RACV wanted around $5K per annum. By the way I own intellitrac GPS tracking systems..www.intellitrac.com.au...so that should add further to my credentials.  At least the car shouldn't get stolen!
