I find it strange your 328 isn't CLEARLY faster than your GT4.

Also strange how you said it wasn't much better than the other 328 you've driven.

I think there must be some kind of problem with your 328 engine.

Get the exhaust gas analysed. Most likely thing to be wrong is cam timing on one bank. One or more  sprocket tooth out is easy to do when changing belts, yet tricky to feel for if you don't have lots of relevant experience.

I once found a 328 with one exhaust cam (it'll be the 5-8 bank, always is) 4 teeth out. Each tooth is 12 degrees I think... so one cam was 48 degrees out.. it idled kind of ok, and went kind of ok... The owner had driven it that way for years. He couldn't believe the difference when he got it back.

I agree about the driving position. GT4 are so comfy... Only a 512BB is more comfy IMO. Yeah, gotta have the AC working though.

really? i haven't run them side by side, obviously. the 328 has much more top end, but low down, nope, they feel about the same. remember my GT4 has high comp pistons and optimised timing and jetting and has excellent throttle response.

and as far as compared to the aussie one......i looked in the book....there's only about 2% more power and torque or something. i'm sure side by side there'd be a difference, but under normal driving, it's not really anything i feel. probably better throttle response with the UK one.

it starts, idles and runs perfectly smoothly. i'd be surprised if the cam timing's wrong. i've seen what just one tooth does to how a car runs.

512BB has the same problem as the 328...lack of head room.....but because the roof's plastic inside, it doesn't catch your hair, if you know what i mean.

i drove rob's BB to port campbell, i remember the seats being very comfy.

Nope.

a UK 328 has a genuine 277 BHP and an aussie/swiss one has a claimed 255 but actually has about 240.

Even with the cam timing out, they still start and run apparently smoothly.

It's the torque though, that is light years different... a UK 328 should blitz an Aussie one. Don't know the numbers off top of my head... but it's a big difference.

Your GT4 is of course modified, and probably goes better than normal, but the 328 should still beat it quite easily.

perhaps your 328 isn't getting full throttle... thats easy to test.

I had no problem in my BB, even with a helmet on, and I'm 6ft 2 and a bit. I did recline the seat well back (and always meant to install a 1 inch steering wheel spacer but never got around to it), and had the drivers seat mounted on it's "front up" choice of bracket position at the thigh support adjuster.

really?????

i found it quite shit with a helmet until i put in a 'glass bucket which gave much more head room.

.

maybe that's the problem.....i don't use full throttle just tootling around.

full throttle high revs definitely faster than the GT4, and i haven't driven the aussie car in that way.

the extra torque is only a couple of %.....i've seen the figures and posted them on here somewhere before.

hmmm. Well, I've driven  several aussie cars and a couple of swiss ones, and maybe 30 or more different  UK 328's...

The difference is huge. massive. clear. obvious.

Or, should be.

Quick tech checks says

UK 328 is 277 BHP and 231 lb ft

US/AU/CH 328 is 255BHP and 213 lb ft

GT4 is 240 BHP and 209 lb ft standard.

and they're only the peak figures.

the way they make those figures is also quite different and clear to feel.

The tubi will take a pffteenth of torque away initially, then add more power higher up.
