Hi

I saw 3 355's and a 348 today and noticed that 2 were a deep blood red and 2 looked a tad orangeish.  I'm wondering are they faded or are they two different colours?

I have tried searching but couldnt work it out.  I'm also interested if anyone has link to show all the colours each ferrari was offered in.  particularly the 90's and 00's models.
again I tried searching but had no luck.

thanks

John

well, there are at least 15 shades of Rosso corsa, then there's all the non rosso corsa reds... about 45 all up, over the years I think.

I've got 2 355's in my shop right now.. one is only 3 months older than the other, both are very early cars.

One is 300/9 the other is 300/12... and thats on the paint code label!

:o whoa.

so if buying a car that I cant personally inspect how can I make sure its the 'right' red?

With respect, determining  the shade of red is the last thing you need to worry about when buying unseen ---it's the quality of the paint, the straightness of the body, signs of repairs, small indicators of under paint corrosion  condition of leather and carpet, condition of rubber seals hoses and bushes, not to mention how the car drives. These are items that are largely subjective and should be accessed in person etc I'm assuming of course that all major issues are covered in a PPI
The colour of the paint can be determined by the colour code on the paint label
Good luck with your search and if you would like me to check some colour codes I would be happy to do so.
Cheers

the bottom line is that red actually fades very badly anyway.

so all you need to worry about is if the car is all the same colour, not what shade it is.. within reason of course.

And viewing under different lights, or pics taken with/without flash is very confusing.

I've just done some paintwork on one of the 355.s,, just a partial re paint...

My paintshop has all kinds of ferrari reds all mixed up from previous jobs done there. Some directly mixed from the paint code, but almost always we have to end up tinting it one way or the other to get a match.

Rosso bordeaux, painted by Xtreme industry this week on a job for me.

First pics with/without flash

second pics, one pic taken through my ray ban polarising sunnies, the other natural...

The best pic to show the real colour is the without flash front shot... it's really quite a deep plum shade, nothing like rosso corsa in the flesh, but in these pics, you'd struggle to tell.

Click on them for full size for a better look.

Is the paint shop close enough that you can put the shell on the trolley and wheel it down the street?
