Hey all
Just joined the forum so a little background....
Have always loved and owned classic cars and about 15 yrs ago had my first Ferrari...a series 2 Silver 308 GT4 with factory s/roof and blue leather...anyway owned and enjoyed it until I sold to buy my first house...
now some yrs later the lure of a 308 GTS has struck and i'm about to buy a 1982 308 GTSi....I know...it's the least desirable but it's within my budget...
anyway it's in the UK and i've had an engineer friend look at it....
what have peoples experiences been importing??
Shipping comes in at $920 UKP some dock fee's of course...I'll clear myself as I was a Customs officer some yrs ago
I know about steam cleaning ,removing aircon CFC's and import approval...
what i'm unsure about is then getting it registered...
How hard/expensive is it to get compliance..is it just a matter of getting a letter from Ferrari?
Getting a RWC won't be a problem as the caar is pretty good
any experiences out there??
Cheers
Andy

Don't forget about Taxes: 10% GST and 10% Duty plus the "up-lift".
From an experience earlier this year, import from the UK via an import agent was $4500.
This included all dock fees over there and here, trucking fees over there and here, AQIS and customs, etc, etc to when the car was ready to be picked up from the Customs holding yard. Transport to Oz was done via "roll on - roll off" so no container was involved, so no contain fees or packing fees. Did not include Tax, that was extra.

Have a read of this, don't worry too much about the ADR 37 stuff as it will not apply to yours.

And if you have any questions, just yell.

yeah...I'd taken into account Duty and GST...I will save money as my mate is driving the 308 to the docks and steam cleaning and getting the aircon emptied....
I will clear the car myself...money will be tight but I guess I can always get it landed and register at a later date when money is available...yeah...I shouldn't be buying one of Maranello's beasts's if I can't afford it but heart rules the head where the prancing horse is concerned....
