Gee Mondi
the truck pick up and clean was a bit rich!!! $770...oh dear...do hope it's cleaned well in the UK!!!
I didn't know you needed a customs yard...just thought they would have a holding area
I am a little rusty since I was a Customs Officer...well..it was 24 yrs go !!
I don't fancy having to export or pay $200 a day to store it so looks like i'm in for a white knuckled month ahead...I'd already rang them and found the guy to be very helpful...mind you I wasn't pushy
I need to watch my costs as I'm doing this on a shoestring  but hey...it's my dream
and I thought I'd be able to land one cheaper than buying locally...
yep...it's a 2 valve and a UK car but I don't care...I hope to have it for a long time  :)
Cheers

I forgot to add that the trucking, etc was for 2 cars but even for 2 cars it is a bit rich.
But it was all arranged with an import agent so there was nothing that could have been done.
If I did it my way it would have worked out heaps cheaper.

Once the car is unpacked it goes into a customs holding area, until it is released.
If this is done at one of the "inner" city yards they deal with the whole process and can cost a few $$$$$s.
This is why I use a yard in the Burb's, costs about $550 for the day to use the yard for a 40 foot Can. The container gets dropped, customs comes and unseals it. We unpack it into the holding area, steam clean everything in the wash bays, AQIS inspects and clears, customs then clear the load and it can be taken away. This way we get to control the unpack and it helps to stop things going missing, etc.
The only time we have to use a yard in the city is if customs want to do a full inspection and go thru the load sheets and what has been declared. This is called "Red lining" I think.

I really don't know how to do it all yourself as I have never tried, always used a customs agent.

FYI - rough break down of the costs on the Mondial.
$4500 for trucking in the UK, loading, sea freight, unloading, trucking here, inspections, re-cleaning, etc, etc.
$8000 for customs fees and taxes.

Talk to "Cassie Freight".

Bob is a really nice guy and helpful.
They do a lot of cars, just explain that you are arranging the shipping but need some help with the clearances.

Hi Mondial
What do you mean by "up lift" in your first post in this thread?

Hi Mondial

OK - going by memory here, if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct me.

When the tax is calculated, I think it goes something like this:

Say we have a car that has been declared at $AU1000.
GST is 10% so $100, this is added to the $1000 = $1100.
It depends on which bracket the vehicle falls into as to the duty that is paid but let's say there is 10% duty on this car as well.
The duty is taken on the $1100 so $110 duty so total tax is $210. But the Tax bill may come to $246.30(working on a 3% "Up-lift")

*** This may be calculated the other way around, I can't remember ***

In my experience with Customs, when I have received a Tax invoice I have tried to break down the tax and I have had a brain melt down.
When I have queried Customs about the figure and calculations they have told me that there is an "Up-lift" figure that goes in the formula.

I do not have the formula, and I am not sure what the "Up-lift" figure is.

I think the duty is applied then the GST.

What light can you throw on this issue??

If it's going to be here on the 25th - how is it coming over???
