My personal experience in importing cars, customs has included the freight costs (dock to dock) in the value of taxable import.

This is not entirely correct, as you have stated Dean, this is your personal experience.

I have imported many vehicles from the States and have only ever paid tax on the value of the vehicle.

But they do take the value as the Native currency and convert it on the day that the vehicle hits the dock. This can be a bugger if the dollar has died in the arse. (As Dean has stated)!!!

And they do add taxes to the shipping, etc but it is mainly GST. All the costs you get quoted will be pretty much EXCLUDING taxes.

So Customs fees, AQIS, customs Yard fees, Agent fees, list goes on and on.....................you have to add Taxes.

Then allow for the customs glorified car wash about $500.

C'mon - be fair they do detail the whole car for you.............

Let me be clear on this.. "I" am not saying anything...

"I" am seeking to clarify what Wolf wrote... which I think I read correctly as being that HIS personal import car cost him $50k to ship/tax and import all up, but as a PI, and this was before compliance.

Meaning that if Wolf had imported his car as a RAWS car, he would have expected to be into it for ~$155k, if he'd paid around 45k POUNDS for his car,  which is a kind of close enough guesstimate.

"I" Imported a 308, 328, 512BB and a 512TR (with luggage :tilt:). "I" know what they cost.

I worded it carefully I thought!

and "I am considering owning a Mondial" is a sentence, as is actually owning a Mondial

^^ more careful wording  :tilt:

Yes they  even flood all the electronics in the process

Couldn't workl out why the countach was flattening the battery overnight and the central locking wasn't working.
(yes my QV5000 has factory central locking)

well...i found that the central locking module was full of water!!!!
It shorted and fused all the central locking motors.

if it was me, i'd bring over a f430 under private (no LCT, less hassel, cheapest way to bring over a car), sell that

Hey  Kujotk, why do you say that you don't pay LCT (Luxury car tax I asssume) if you bring over a 430 Vs a 360?  I thought any car over $57K, no matter what, gets LCT?
