Now I have been specifically after a 348 as I love their look and are about 50k cheaper than F355's.

Apparently they drive completely differently and 355's stick to the road a lot better?

your pricing is not too bad...

but your reasoning is STUFFED!

355's have more grip. But they're more powerful too. BOTH are VERY crashable cars in inexperienced hands. 348's are very pitchy and unsettled by bumps/poor road surface conditions.

But not if you drive within Aussie speed limits  :tilt:

cheers guys.

Has anyone previously owned one? How often do they need servicing?

Not that I would but could you drive it daily?

from an old fart for what its worth have owned 348ts and Spider, cam belt service is mandatory from memory 3 years I THKNK!( they extended the 355 cam belts time change) handling is an issue at speeds that should only be attemped on tracks, snap over steer at the rear, can simply be fixed by spacing the rear wheels or changing the rims and offsets

second gear when COLD so be avoided if you can find it at all until she warms up,  TS roofs leak when it rains, answer DONT drive in  the rain, make sure you get a FULL service history, better still get it checked out by a specialist before you buy or condition of sale

oh and check the operation of the dash controls, fans and electrics,

lastly after all this your Ferrari will stop or not start at the most in opportune times, but hell you own a ferrari !!!
try it you may like !!!

Thanks for all the replies guys. How I didn't come across this site earlier I have no idea...

I have read several reviews online as well as in magazines, with regards to the 348. Some praise it, some loathe it. But I guess I am a bit worried about the handling not being too responsive and being an inexperienced Ferrari driver don't want to wrap it around a tree.

I am not a stupid driver by any means (never had a speeding ticket etc) but it still irks me that they are apparently so easy to lose control of.

While the F355 is more powerful, by all reports it handles a hell of a lot better...I guess the crux of the matter is I have wanted a Ferrari since I was ten, have worked hard in my business and have an opportunity to purchase one relatively soon without going into debt (I have always said the only debt I want to get into is for property).

Now while I have the chance to buy one soon, I don't have too.

Would you guys in the know recommend me going for the F355, and just get it a year or so down the track? The apparent handling and the layout really appeals to me, but I LOVE the look of the 348 a bit more...

Yep, my TS leaked like a sieve too, but only on the passenger side. 125 grand for a rolling wet t-shirt competition seemed to be a good idea at the time (though if a mate was paxing it was weird, i'll admit).

Interior's are a pain, like all ferrari's the plastic goes tacky and sticky post some time in the sun. Aircon controls bubbled, leather benefitted from regular feeding.

Second gear greatly improved with Redline Shockproof oil being added to the gearbox. Handling was improved with 25mm spacers on the rear wheels, and new rubber all round as noted by SuperS.

It was a very pretty car, and if you're mechanically inclined it's maintainable.

C'mon, do it!

and THATS the problem right there...

348's ARE totally responsive..... they'll do anything you tell them to..... including the wrong things!

They can be REALLY rewarding to drive on the ragged edge... IF you can keep it straight.... but typically, the "stupidity filter" built into 355's is a blessing compared to 348.

Great advice!

But as great as it is, and it IS a great car... it's NOT a Ferrari!

A Ferrari is SO MUCH more than just a fast car... the perfect example of "greater than the sum of its parts"....

Buy an NSX AFTER you've owned a Ferrari, to truly appreciate BOTH more!
